Sažetak
The complete spectral function of core hole created in X-ray photoemission experiments is calculated and compared with the theory which predicted singularity and asymmetry around the elastic line. The spectral function is also compared with some recent experimental observations which show that the plasmonic satellites are also asymmetric. Both effects directly or indirectly originate from the infinite number of intrinsically excited low energy electron-hole pairs. The spectra of electronic excitations of coupled metallic slabs were calculated, and the formula for the microscopic van der Waals interaction between the two metallic slabs with nonoverlapping electronic densities is constructed. This expression contains only the (RPA or similar) response functions for independent metallic slabs. At large distances it agrees with the long wavelength results limit (i.e. with the Lifshitz formula), and at short distances with the RPA results which include the overlap between electronic densities.
