Sažetak
Throughout 1990s media in Southeastern European countries often served as a propaganda tool of ethnic entrepreneurs. Rare examples of independent and opposition media, mostly supported by foreign sources, proved unable to cope with the market forces once the nationalistic discourse was brought to an end and financial support was taken away. Murky privatization processes and unclear ownership structures emerged as a part of post-conflict privatization processes. The change of dominant media discourse, predominantly through trivialization and commercialization of all programs, do not contribute to a promotion of reconciliation. Ethnic stereotyping of non-dominant communities still persist and ethnic cleavages are widely reflected in the media space. Presentation attempt to explain to what extent transformation of media form chauvinistic and exclusionist, which were the features of mainstream and dominant media throughout 1990s, into socially inclusive promoters of inter-ethnic tolerance has happened. International standards that set the media responsibility for promotion of inter-ethnic tolerance are analyzed at the outset of the presentation in order to set up principles that should be fulfilled for the realization of truly inclusive and non-discriminatory media.
