Sažetak
Requirements of the Lloyd Register Provisional Rules for Enchanced Availability of Engineering Systems for Propulsion and Steering and requirements of American Bureau of Shipping in the same matter introduce the need to double the number of each system of propulsion and steering, and to place each system in separate room. The benefit of these requirements, in real service conditions, can be discussed from the point of the propeller working conditions and excessive steering possibilities. Involving the design approach called „design for maintenance“ and the aim of unattended engine room, the application of electro-propulsion and steering systems that comply with all requirements regarding the enchanced availability, design for maintenance approach, and unattended engine room claim from the maritime market. The engine room configurations are analyzed from the point of service relialibility and for various failure cases oft he propulsion and steering systems.
