Sažetak
Background and objective: The second generation Er:YAG Fidelis laser introduced the Variable Square Pulse technology (VSPt) which enables higher ablation speed in enamel and dentin in comparison to high-speed and low-speed handpieces. The aim of the study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of a composite resin to dentin modified with three different pulses of the Er:YAG laser based on Variable Square Pulse technology and with one self-etch adhesive. Materials and methods: The entire occlusal enamel was removed to obtain flat dentin surface for forty eight human molar teeth. The teeth were randomly divided into four experimental groups (n= 12 per group), according to the pretreatment of dentine: 1) control group ; 2) SSP (Super Short Pulse: 50 sec) ; 3) MSP (Medium Short Pulse ; 100 sec) and 4) SP (Short Pulse ; 300 sec) with Er:YAG laser. The microtensile bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine. Two specimens from each experimental group were subjected to SEM examination, to observe the bonding surface. Results: Dentin surface treated with SSP showed significantly lower microtensile bond strength values in comparison to the control group and SP group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The use of SP and MSP of the Er:YAG laser with one-step self-etch adhesive does not impair microtensile bond strength in dentin, while SSP may not be suitable for dentin surface treatment prior to bonding procedures.
