Sažetak
Computer modelling and simulation of the quenching process should become a widely accessible engineering tool, in order to predict the quench-hardness, microstructure, stresses and distortion, when real engineering components of complex geometry are quenched. The indispensable prerequisite for any computer model is adequate heat transfer data for the entire duration of the quenching process, determined for concrete quenching medium and quenching conditions. Yet there is no a generally recognized method and technique for measurement, recording and comparison of relative cooling intensities of different quenchants. The database should therefore encompass a range of selected quenchants under specified conditions, data of which could be used worldwide. The whole project is two phase. During Phase 1 the main purpose is to compile the experimental results of participating investigators (institutions or companies) and establish the database, that will be used as input for the following Phase 2. The aim of Phase 2 is further development of numerical models and production of adequate software.
