Sažetak
Every participant in the life of a local community, and therefore the local community of the island of Krk as well, must develop the awareness of how they must cooperate in the improvement of quality, environment protection and safety, which will be achieved by constant education, perfection and adequacy increase of all the island of Krk’s destination factors. With the preventive measures of environment protection and optimal resources usage in the constructions and management of the island of Krk, as well as the waste management practices (the system of The Eco Island of Krk), the island of Krk has to become an example, aware of its responsibility for the future generations and the sustainable development need. Open communication and partner relations with the social community and all the interested parties, primarily relating to the environment protection and tourists’ and visitors’ safety, must be main factors of the future sustainable development of the island of Krk. The adoption of the environment management system as one of the strategic baselines of the sustainable development of the island of Krk provides comparable advantage on the tourist market, and thus the island of Krk is defined as an ˝eco island˝ with the fulfilling of all the legal and other obligations, satisfaction of the demands of tourists, local community and the public, with the goal of more successful environment protection.
