Sažetak
This paper investigates whether there is a connection between students' learning style and enrolled elective module within the framework of a study program, and is it possible to predict students success on the basis of students’ learning style and elective module with the use of machine learning classification methods. The study involved students of the fifth year of graduate studies whose learning style was examined with the use of the Felder-Soloman Index of Learning Styles. The correlations between the dimensions of learning style detected with the use of the Felder-Soloman Index of Learning Styles are also investigated as well as correlations between the performance of students, selected elective modules and the dimensions of learning style. In data processing ANOVA method and machine learning classification methods were used. Results showed that students with dominant active, visual, sensory and intuitive dimensions choose all elective modules, while students with a strong sequential dimension tend to choose module with the developmental direction and students with strong global dimension prefer module with increased courses of computer science. The paper emphasizes the need to adapt teaching styles in individual elective modules to learning styles of students who entered that module. The results obtained in this work can serve as guidelines for designing teaching materials and in planning for organizational purposes of teaching, with the goal of improving students’ learning outcomes.
