Sažetak
Objectives are shor– term comparison of two therapeutic strategies and measurement of he agitation. 12 male and 14 female agitated schizophrenics (DSM IV) admitted to intensive care ward. They were assessed during 7 days (1, 3, 5, 7 day) with PANSS – excited items for agitation (4, 7, 18, 22, 28). Agitation – Calmness Evaluation Scale (ACES), Clinical Global Impression (CGI) and UKU Side Effect Rating Scale. Inclusion criteria were at least moderate score on used scales and stabille physical condition. The patients were divided in two groups without significant differences between them according to sex, age and score level. There were two therapeutic strategies used: (1) combination of haloperidol (10-20 mg/day) and promazine (100-600 mg/day) or levomepromezine (50 – 400mg/day). (2) Combination of haloperidol (10-20 mg/day) and carbamazepine (200mg 1st day, stepping 200mg each day till 1200mg/day). Clinically significant improvement on PANSS- excited items, ACES and CGI were shown in the group 2 after day 3, and in group 1 after day 5. Side effects were significantly less in group 2. The application of carbamazepine with haloperidol showed faster result and less side – effects. Use of these combination seems to be rational advantage in treatment of agitated schizophrenics.
