Sažetak
This work deals with photocatalytic oxidation of toluene in the gas phase. The reaction was performed in the annular photocatalytic reactor. Two designs of the photoreactor were used: a standard one and the annular reactor with recirculation. Catalytic properties (activity and stability) of four catalysts were compared: two commercial ones supplied by different producers (AEROXIDE® P25, Degussa and MILLENIUM® PC500, Cristal) and two home-made catalysts (TiO2 in the anatase form and a mesoporous silicate SBA-15 modified with titanium). Particular emphasis was given to investigation of the influence of hydrodynamics in the reactor and to investigation of the catalytic properties under different reaction conditions. All measurements were performed at atmospheric pressure, room temperature, initial concentration of toluene of 2.68 g/m3 and relative humidity of 49 % and at different recycle flow rates (500 and 2000 cm3 min-1). In order to describe the photocatalytic oxidation of toluene and behavior of the annular reactor the appropriate mathematical models of the reactor were proposed. One-dimensional (1D) heterogeneous model was proposed to describe the behavior of a standard annular reactor (without recirculation), while the behavior of the annular reactor with recirculation was approximated with a mathematical model for a stirred tank reactor. To describe the reaction rate a simplified model of a pseudo-first order reaction was used. A good agreement between the experimental data and theoretical predictions was obtained, which supported applicability of the proposed models in describing the behavior of the experimental reactors used in this work.
