Sažetak
The main objective of the study was to find out the prevalence mental disorders among highly traumatized persons during the war against Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study took place in Camps for refugees and displaced persons in the town of Zagreb and its surroundings as a part of psycho-social help. Only those persons who had beer exposed to an extreme traumatic stressor before coming to the Camp were included in the study. Beside this all of them till now can't go back to their domicile place, and don't have complete and accurate information about condition of their homes. In the study 376 persons, both sexes, at the age between 14 78 years, were included. All of them were polytraumatized, with the number of traumas varying from 2 to 11. All persons were forced to leave their homes or run away in front of physical maltreatment. Most of them lost all their property, and 34% of them lost at least one member of their closer family. Few of them were raped. At the moment of diagnosing they were in Camps between 6 to 35 months, trained and experienced psychiatrists interviewed all 376 persons ad found out that 96 (25.5%) persons fulfilled the criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (F43.1/309.81), and 42 (11.2%) persons had bad acute stress reaction/disorder (F43.0/308.3) according to ICD- 10 and DSM-IV. In relation to ICD-10 107 (28.5%) persons had the diagnosis "other reactions to severe stress" (F43.8), while in 29 (7.7%) persons the diagnosis "reaction to severe stress, unspecified" (F43.9) was made. Only in 102 (27.1%) persons the category "not mentally ill” was rated.
