Sažetak
Schizophrenia annual hospital incidence based on Croatia's Psychiatric Register calculated for 1964-88 was expressed as age-standardized rate per 1, 000 population aged above 15 years (standardized by Croatia's 1981 census). The average annual incidence in the observation period was 0.270/1, 000 for sexes, 0.287/1, 000 for males and 0.249/1, 000 for females. The regression line statistics for age-standardized incidence rates for the 25-year period showed no significant change in incidence rates (p<0.05). The linear regression slope for both sexes was b = 0.000465/1000 (t(b) = 0.6676) ; in males it was b = 0.000946/1000 (t(b)= 1.2245), and in females b = 0.0000046/1000 (t(b) = 0.00576). Field epidemiological studies in Croatia (1) have showed over 90% of the schizophrenics found in the population as either admitted or to be admitted. The female unhospitalized rate was three times that of males, which may also explain the slightly higher male hospital incidence rates. These results suggest a constant incidence of schizophrenia in Croatia for the past quarter century as well as a roughly equal frequency of schizophrenia in both sexes. 1.
