Sažetak
During 2008 Institute of Archaeology conducted the fourth campaign of systematic archaeological excavations at the Medieval site Suhopolje- Kliškovac. Excavations conducted in this year covered the surface of 117 m². The aim of the opening of the new surface was to determine the base plane of the Medieval object in its entirety. The walls of the mentioned edifice were discovered during the excavation of 2006 and 2007. A rectangular room was defined, whose eastern and western walls stretched in north to south direction and continued futher to the south. These walls, together with the wall that stretched in west to east direction, formed the northern and southern rooms. It should be mentioned that the southern room had been for the most part destroyed during the construction of the railway. In 2008, 34 graves were excavated. Graves 83, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 84 and 93 were situated in the same row eastern of the object and they were considered to be from the same period as the object. The other graves required comparative analysis and radio-carbon dating. The graves that were transected by walls or that were situated at the bottom of the cut of the negative of the wall were older than the object. Quadrants L/M 5 revealed a pit-dwelling with a row of smaller poles that surrounded it. The pit-dwelling was rather shallow (or it had been preserved in that way by ploughing), it had an irregular triangular shape in ots base. The fill revealed potshards, considerable amount of soot and very small fragments of Medieval pottery. This object confirmed the precious assumption that this area had been a settlement, with the pit-dwelling being a part of a settlement younger than the cemetery. This find of a housing object confirmed the existence of a settlement older than today’s Suhopolje.
