Sažetak
Many Croatian young chemists and chemical engineers have been working in the Group of Atomic Spectroscopy of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Vienna (Austria), under supervision of prof. dr. Ilse Steffan. The following techniques and instrument combinations were in use: inductively coupled plasma - atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), graphite furnace - atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and separation techniques like HPLC, PAGE, CE, IC. Hyphenation of separation methods and specific atomic detection research areas included multi element analysis by ICP-AES or GFAAS, analyses of trace and ultra trace elements in e.g.: water systems or rock samples, nutrition, biological samples, prosthetic materials, archeological materials (ceramics, bones, bronze), textiles, speciation of metals in different matrices, gaseous sample introduction (hydride generation) in ICP-AES or GFAAS, hyphenation of separation methods and atomic specific detection and investigation of the effects of organic solvents in the Ar-plasma. The results of this fruitful cooperation are numerous publications in scientific journals and presentations at different international conferences which will be presented here. The most important outcome is, nevertheless, the knowledge and support that was given to us during many years of working together, for which we are most grateful to prof. Ilse Steffan.
