Sažetak
The establishment of cultural identity reflects different and multifaceted approaches to culture and to self-definition. The transitional societies are unstable societies undergoing major developmental and transformational changes, which particularly emphasize the problem of cultural identity. Postsocialist cultures are now being defined through interaction between the existing structured national cultures exposed to transitional changes and the integrative European cultural context. The general frameworks for the newly emerging cultural identities appear to include: reevaluation of cultural traditions and heritage and the unveiling of their national and ethnic characteristics; growing impact of religions; strong interest in international cultural communication, particularly with Western cultures; decline of interest in non-Western cultures and civilizations; concentration on self-assertion; introduction of new cultural values easily transferred by cultural industries and modern communication technologies; and, radical change of functions of cultural institutions and cultural infrastructure. All this indicates that the reinterpretation of the past cultural values cannot be as important as is the present dynamics of transitional cultural change.
