Sažetak
As a phenomenon, tourism is the result of economic and social development and the human need for travelling. It is characterized by marketing relations set up between the providers of tourism supply and tourism demand on the tourist market. Marketing is the link between these two segments on the tourist market. Through market research tourism supply providers are able to design a product in alignment with the needs and wants of tourism demand and in accordance with modern trends on the tourist market. A basic modern trend is the application of the sustainability concept. This is a concept of which the consumers of tourism products, on the one hand, are becoming more and more aware and which, on the other hand, tourism-supply providers involved in designing tourism products are increasingly applying in their operations. The application of the sustainability concept in tourism for the purpose of meeting the needs of modern tourists requires that employees, in all segments involved in creating a tourism product, are knowledgeable of the principles of sustainable development.
