Sažetak
Existing bridge management systems used worldwide are generally well suited to data collection and analysis on network level. However, the project level management, particularly regarding large or other significant bridges, requires bridge-specific maintenance program. This issue will be discussed and demonstrated on the example of seven large reinforced concrete arch bridges constructed over the past four decades at the Croatian coastline with spans ranging from 140 m to almost 400 m. Over the years many deficiencies and advanced stage of deterioration processes were identi-fied on older bridges, as a consequence of extremely aggressive exposure conditions, but also of conceptual design and errors and negligence on site. The design of more recent bridges took into account the experience from the in-service performance of older arch bridges, as will be shown in the paper. As chloride-induced corrosion is the major cause of deterioration of those arches, deterioration prediction models during corrosion process on structural members is essential for efficient bridge management. In this purpose 3D numerical chemo-hygro-thermo-mechanical model for concrete is currently being developed to realistically simulate corrosion of reinforcement, which current status is shortly presented in the paper.
