Sažetak
At first, the Franciscan iconography was rather modest. In correspondence with idea of extreme simplicity and povry, in 1260 decoration was banned in Franciscan churches , excepting the central window of the altar, where pictures and Cross, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. John, St. Francis, and St. Anthony were allowed. This laid the foundations of a specific Franciscan iconography. At its heart are Jesus, Mary and John, followd by St. Francis and St. Anthony. Such severity would gradually decrese, particularly with a surge of Coventuals in the Oreder. Further development of Frnciscan iconography corresponds to the usual pattern of its growth among other orders. As regards organization, the Franciscans of continental Croatia hed close ties with Central Europe. The choiceof saints in their works thuis corresponds with their selection in other parts of Central REurope. Specific Franciscan iconographic model therefore grew from the other monks personal needs, within a general Roman Catholic iconography. However, in some countries it was partly conditioned by specific local demands which manifested themselves in the worshišpof particular saints of exceptional importasnmce for local churches (e.g.St. John Capistranus). Yet personal iconographies of certain patron saints are permeated with the themes related to Mary, apparently giving her the central place in the iconographic program. However, a closer iconographic analysis proves that ich program related to Mary directs wievers thoght towards Jesus Christus, emboded in Holy Eucharist.
