Sažetak
Properties of multiphase polymer systems depend on the properties of their individual constituents, their morphology and interfacial adhesion between phases. An interface/interphase plays a crucial role in the multiphase polymer systems. Modification of interfacial adhesion in binary and ternary polymer systems by the filler surface pre-treatment has been the subject of investigation in this study. The influence of nano-SiO2 filler surface pre-treatment with - methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPS) and aminopropylsilanetriol (APTO) on the properties of poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) composites as well as pre-treatment with hexamethyldisilazane on the properties of polypropylene/polystyrene (PP/PS) blends were investigated. Interfacial interactions, thermal and mechanical properties of PVAc/nano-SiO2 composites and PP/PS/nano-SiO2 polymer blends were investigated by using contact angle technique, FTIR, dynamical mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and tensile test. Interfacial properties in binary and ternary polymer systems were quantitatively predicted using adhesion parameters at the interface such are thermodynamic work of adhesion, interfacial free energy and spreading coefficient. The results indicate different bonding mechanisms at interface between untreated and silane pre-treated nano-SiO2 fillers with polymer in binary and ternary systems.
