Sažetak
Paleomagnetic investigations of the Adriatic carbonate platform started more than 30 years ago. The subjects of those pioneer studies were mostly weakly magnetic platform carbonates which were sampled before developments in knowledge of carbonate platforms sedimentology. More recently it became clear that for the purpose of paleomagnetic studies, apart from good bedding and the absence of visible karstification (MÁRTON et al. 2003 ; MÁRTON et al. 2008), mud supported limestones without visible macrofossils or late diagenetic changes and secondary alterations are preferable ones. Keeping in mind the above requirements, paleomagnetic samples were taken from peritidal , subtidal as well as pelagic limestones from Ist and neighboring islands (MÁRTON & MORO, 2009). The limestones were wackestone-packstone/grainstones, while the pelagic were mudstones-packstones. Both could appear with lamination as structural characteristic. Despite similar structural and textural characteristic of sampled limestones, the proportion of the paleomagnetically useful samples differs form one locality to another. According to the field observations as well as thin-section analysis, it could be presumed that, together with late diagenetic processes, the amount of different particles as well as their characteristics variously influenced paleomagnetic results.
