Sažetak
From June to December 1998 at all types of border crossings in Croatia, i.e. road, railway, air and maritime, 19,718 foreign visitors leaving Croatia and 4,958 domestic visitors returning home have been interviewed. Main travel purpose of foreign visitors to Croatia is relaxation and entertainment - 28%. 24% are in transit, 22% are visiting friends and relatives, and 19% are business travellers. Remaining 7% foreign visitors come for shopping (3%), health purposes (2%), various mainly private purposes (1.7%) like weddings, funerals, various services, while the least share come for education (0.5%). Travel purposes vary according to particular months, so concerning the structure of travel purpose by each of the seven months, relaxation and entertainment are the most noticeable during Summer, i.e. July (42%) and August (45%). Transit through Croatia is the heaviest in December (33%), which is also the month with the highest share of visiting friends and relatives (28%). October is the month with some higher share of business visits (29%), health (4%) and other purposes (4%). According to the mentioned survey, Croatian travellers abroad are mostly interested in shopping - 51%. From other travel purposes dominant ones are business - 21%, and visiting friends and relatives who live abroad - 17%. Yet 5% of Croatian population travel abroad for relaxation and entertainment. The remaining 6% of Croatian travellers go abroad for health purposes (1%), education (1%), other purposes (1%), while 3% are in transit. A comparative outline of purposes for travels abroad according to months show that the share of shopping is the highest during November (59%) and the lowest during July (45%). Business travel abroad is more frequent in July (26%) and December (25%). The interest for rest and visiting friends and relatives is the highest during the summer months. Relaxation and entertainment is the highest in July (8%), and visiting friends and relatives in August (25%).
