Sažetak
Basic features of airbags in vehicles are described. Design and manufacture of fabrics for making airbags and their after-treatment are a very important task concerning the reliability of airbags. Timely airbag deployment, airbag shape and gas discharge are also exceptionally essential for passenger safety. This is the reason why the material development and manufacture of airbags, way of activation, shapes and number of airbags and their installation in vehicles has been described. Special attention is paid to the sewing process and sewing automata for making differently shaped and sized airbags. Sewing on different sewing automata and using different seams produced high-quality and effective airbags providing a high level of passenger safety in the case of a crash, particularly in new high speed vehicles. Basic features of the predictive future development of airbags in vehicles are given in order to improve passenger safety.
