Sažetak
Wastewater originated from dye manufacturing and application industries presents a significant issue to the environment due to aesthetic reasons. Namely, colouration is visible even at low dye concentration. Furthermore, the majority of dyes as well as their breakdown products is toxic and presents a threat to the aquatic life and humans. So, the treatment of wastewater streams loaded with organic synthetic dyes is still a significant environmental issue. Conventional treatment methods are not efficient enough for the removal of dyes from wastewater due to complex dye structure and presence of dyes in high concentration in wastewater streams (biological methods) and generation of secondary waste (coagulation/flocculation). Therefore, Advanced Oxidation Technologies (AOTs) seemed to be more promising for the treatment of coloured wastewater. Treatment of wastewater streams by AOTs based on photo-oxidation and photocatalysis, particularly UV/TiO2 is getting great attention in the wastewater treatment plants as well in supporting mobile units in order to achieve destruction of recalcitrant organic pollutants. The scope of this study was to investigate the efficiency of photocatalysis and sonocatalysis with TiO2 for the treatment of model wastewater containing C.I. Reactive Violet 2 (RV2), C.I. Mordant Yellow 10 (MY10) and oxalic acid as well as combination of their mixtures. The effect of the catalyst type (crystal structure etc.) and different reactor configuration has been evaluated. It has been found that a commercial TiO2 catalyst is more efficient as photocatalyst while calcinated TiO2 (rutile) has shown to be more prominent in sonocatalysis. The higher efficiency of photocatalysis was achieved in the larger volume, longer but narrower reactor geometry. System of such reactor in recirculation loop presents adequate base for the process scale-up. The mathematical model for particular processes and studied systems, model of unsteady continuous stirred tank, as well as corresponding kinetics model for degradation of dyes RV2, MY10, oxalic acid and their mixtures has been developed.
