Sažetak
The guidlines for interactive user interface design in an intelligent instrumentation system are based on direct manipulation of graphical objects. Standard structured graphic packages, which are currently extensively used in the design of user interfaces are often large and monolitic with many but difficult to extend built-in functions. Editing and manipulating the display list is hard, particularly when its elements are represented procedurally. An object orientd approach through programming languages which support encapsulation, inheritance and run-time binding of operations to objects, offer solutions to the problems of standard structured graphics packages. The paper describes mechanisms for implementing two-dimensional graphic objects, which are intrinsic to an interactive user interface. Object can be defined statically by subclassing, or dinamically by creating instances of existing classes.
