Sažetak
As a part of an extensive research on sound quality evaluation of hand-held power tools, a computer application was constructed for synthesis of sounds of such devices. In order to maintain the form of the application as simple as possible, the components of synthesized sound were restricted to shaped wideband noise and three tonal components with either pure or complex tones. Subjective tests were made in which the subjects were asked to use the application to synthesize the sound of certain types of power tools in idle operation and during stopping based on their own desires and ideas on how such devices should sound like. During these tests, the subjects were given considerable latitude in choosing the values of available parameters. However, at the initialization stage of the application, default values of these parameters are set in order to present the capabilities of the application to the subjects and to ensure that the application will work properly. The intent of this paper is to investigate the influence the choice of initial values has on the end results, i.e. the character of the synthesized sound. Therefore, tests are made with different sets of initial values, changing between conservative and extreme. The chosen final values of available parameters and the resulting sounds are analyzed and compared with regard to the initial set of values.
