Sažetak
Even though there are many linguistic definitions of the terms poetry and poet, one cannot exclude the elements of culture in several variants. Lots of poets regard themselves as cultural activists. One of the major questions that could arise here is how tight the bondage between culture and poetry actually is. Are poems understood and interpreted in the same way in different cultures and societies? Are there some culture- specific elements that influence the interpretation and the effect a poem makes on its readers? All these questions are discussed on the example of the analysis of the translations of Raji's English poems into Croatian and German languages. The aim of the present paper is therefore to find out to what extent the elements of culture(s) influence the translation and subsequently the reception and interpretation of literary works.
