Sažetak
The reasons for the development of a computer aided materials selection (CAMS) are disscused and its use at various levels in production and elsewhere determined. The structure of the CAMS system is set-out and analysed: data bank ; konwledge base ; module for processing input data and software support. Some results of own research are presented featuring the following groups of materials: steels, Al-alloys, plain bearing materials, abrasion resistance materials and polymers. The problems and trends in the future development of the system are indicated.
