Sažetak
Transcription factors from the Ikaros family, Aiolos and Helios play an essential role in the commitment of hematopoietic progenitors into the lymphoid lineage as well as in the choice of effector functions at later stages of development. Gene targeting studies in mice and also studies of cell populations from leukemic patients indicate that Ikaros, Aiolos and Helios might be involved in leukemogenesis. Therefore we analyzed Aiolos and Helios expression in 8 hematological cell lines, and leukemic cells from 17 patients with morbus Hodgkin's and 24 patients with non- Hodgkin's lymphoma. We used reverse transcription- PCR on RNA isolated from formalin fixed and paraffin embedded lymph node tissues previously evaluated by pathohistological and immunophenotypic criteria. We also analyzed protein expression in leukemic cell subpopulations. Our results show that the pattern of expression of Aiolos and Helios is not homogeneous among different subsets of leukemia.
