Sažetak
Preschool experiences are important to the growth and development of blind children. The blind children need the same information, educational experiences and opportunities as sighted children to become competent, self-sufficient and independent in communication and learning. In the language and concept development of the blind children, the listening skills represent an aspect that the teachers should focus on, providing concrete, real, repeated and varied experiences so that the children understand the significance and learns about their world through listening. It is important that the child gets awareness and understanding of the concepts through listening activities of different texts associated with hand-on experiences and tactile exploration. Teachers and even parents can read to the children books that have also Braille or large print, exposing the child to concepts, words and meaning. Even though many would criticize that listening is not literacy, it is an important component of language and concept development.
