Sažetak
Gorgonians (Anthozoa, Gorgonacea) have been the subject of numerous chemical investigations which have yielded mainly sesquiterpenes, diterpenes, prostanoids, highly functionalized steroids, acetogenins and alkaloids and a high number of those metabolites have been proven to be biologically active (Blunt et al, 2010). Species of the genus Nephthea have been shown to produce mainly diterpenes and steroids. Specimens of N. mollis Macfadyan were collected from the Egyptian coastal area of the Red Sea in March 2008. Extraction of the dried tissues of the soft coral with a mixture of dicloromethane and methanol, followed by a series of chromatographic separations led to the isolation of a number of known metabolites, along with six new steroids (1-6). The evaluation of the biological activity of the isolated compounds is currently in progress.
