Sažetak
Washing historic textiles is a demanding and complex procedure. Processing parameters should be adapted to the type and condition of the textiles, its origin and the degree of soiling. The aim of this paper is to investigate acceptability and applicability of various detergent formulations in washing historic textiles. Employing specially designed procedures, selected detergents are used to hand wash textile fabrics made of silk, wool and cotton. To provide completely objective evaluation of the most appropriate detergent, standard soiled cotton and PES/cotton fabrics are laboratory washed with adequate ballast fabrics. The most appropriate detergent formulation is selected based on its efficiency in removing various types of soils, in preventing redeposition, pH control and electrical potential of the bath after soaking, washing and rinsing. The results obtained are evaluated and efficiency of washing processes established, together with the adequacy of most tested detergent formulations for the procedure of washing historic textiles.
