Sažetak
Lettuce, carrot and pak-choi crops were directly covered during the early spring growth phase using perforated polyethylene film, and 3 unwoven materials: Agryl P17, Agratex and Retex. Lettuce cultivars with direct cover at the beginning of March produced 18 - 28% higher yields than the uncovered control, depending on the type of covering material used. Average weight of lettuce heads under the covering was 20 - 44% greater than the uncovered crops. The covering of carrot sown in mid March increased yields by 62 - 91% compared to the control. The marketable covered carrots were 18% larger in diameter, 13 - 29% longer, and weighed 38-54% more, on average. A yield increase of 14 - 286% was obtained with covered pak-choi compared to uncovered crop. Growth method, type of covering material, and plant density were all factors. Under the covering the average weight of the marketable portion of pak-choi plant was 36% greater, and the volume 19% greater, than the control. The covered plants were earlier and the first harvest yield was greater than the control.
