Sažetak
This paper reviews the results of the survey performed in order to assembly recent scientific knowledge about specificities and advantages of organic beekeeping over conventional production of bee hive products. Beside pollination as principal contribution of beekeeping, organic production of several bee hive products is taken into the consideration: honey, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, wax and bee venom. Main issues related to safety and quality of these products are stressed, with particular attention given to the peculiarities of organic methodology of production. Based on reachable information acquired from various sources, main figures are shown dealing with available quantities of organic bee hive products at European and Mediterranean markets with major difficulties of organic beekeeping reviewed, taking into the account differences in organic legal framework. Special emphasize was given to the quality of organic honey, as principal beehive product, its’ production, as well as perception of its’ positive impact to the human health, above all when deriving from organic production.
