Sažetak
This paper gives an overview of the current state in rootkits, in particular Windows rootkits. It defines rootkits classification and explains techniques that rootkits use. Paper will give suggestions for prevention, detection methods and responding. It also takes in consideration new rootkit techniques that are still in research phase, but yet have no practical implementation “in the wild”. There will be some overview of the incoming operating system Windows Vista in the context of rootkits and system security.
