Sažetak
The purpose of these investigations was to show how is molecular biology supported by an intelligent tutoring system (ITS). Its was made for students education on University to give explanation of transmission mechanism and expression of genetic information, which ultimately governs cell structure and function. In this work we describe the application of the intelligent hypermedial authoring shell Tutor - Expert System (TEx-Sys) in developing knowledge base on the fundamental principles of molecular biology. TEx-Sys is used in lecturing students of the biology and chemistry study group within the course of lectures called Computer Aided Instruction. Intelligent tutoring systems use the techniques discovered in artificial intelligence research to aid in the teaching and learning of some subject matter or skill. The results of such application have shown that, after first difficulties in acquiring formalized representation of knowledge, students gladly accept this way of learning and testing their knowledge. According to them, the hypermedia characteristics of TEx-Sys are particularly contributing to easier mastering of the domain knowledge. The results are therefore rather encouraging and initiate the gradual widening of the existing knowledge base by every more complex knowledge structures. Besides, we are facing the necessity of enhancing the range of learning up to level of the entire Cell Biology subject matter, through the application of a sophisticated courseware program module. The possibilities of such application are still open, considering that we have only started testing the efficiency of its interrelation with World Wide Web services.
