Sažetak
More than thousands islands, islets, reefs, and rocks surrounded by unique beauties of the underwather world are decoration and treasure of Croatia. Great variaty of flora and fauna, beauties of the sea bottom settlements, dense fields of alčgae and seagrass mesdows is what makes Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, so special. Many years of over fishing and different undertakings in the coastal area have been developed as well as other areas important for spawing and growth of economically significant marine species. By their destruction the renewable biological resources and marine biodiversity of the Adriatic Sea have been seriously endangered. A ratio of specially protected inland and marine areas is not proportional to the total area of land and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia. Following the proposal for the Startegy of Phisical Planning of the Republic of Croatia (1996) the ratio would be even worse because the proposal does not forsee adequate enlargement of specially protected marine areas. This paper presents three phases of planning the active preservation and sensible use of bioresources along Croatian coast of Adriatic Sea. Project Preservation of Biodiversity of Adiatic Sea which already has been in realisation, include preliminary research and organisation management of specially protected areas on 6 localities: vrsar islands, Island of Silba, Islands Prvić-Grgur-Goli, Islands of Ćutin; Island of Palagruža. Pursuant to the Law on Maritime Fisheries proposal for the proclamation of a larger number of special habitats is currently under consideration.Referring to this special protection may be ensured for the areas that present spawing and raising grouns of economically important specias especially those whose survival is threatened by overfishing or pollution. The proposal for specialprotection of the seagrass, Posidonia oceanica endagered in the entire Croatian territorial sea area and their habitat is also currently under consideration and also elaborated in this paper. The network of specially protected areas (marine park, special reserve, special habitat, ect.) on Croatian part of Adriatic Sea with strictly defined management regulation would allow the preservation and rapid re-establishment of favourable enviromental conditions.
