Sažetak
T stage and/or fine needle biopsy which suggested that a tumour is a high-grade malignancy determines the indication for elective neck dissection in malignant tumours of the parotid gland. Neck dissection does not affect the dissection and preservation of the facial nerve. In cases of malignant tumours of the sublingual and submandibular glands, the localization of the tumours is an indication for elective neck dissection. In major salivary gland tumours the elective neck dissection might also be indicated by intraoperative findings including lymph node frozen section biopsy. In malignant tumours of the minor salivary glands, END is not indicated, but curative dissections should be at least modified radical neck dissections (mRND). If performed, an mRND is to be done in those in whom the cytological grade is evaluated as being high, and a selective neck dissection (SND) in patients for other malignant salivary gland tumours.
