Sažetak
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), communication intensive information systems (CIISs), electronic marketplaces and electronic business give the impetus to evolution of the new economic paradigm known as the New Economy. Application of these technological solutions requires changes to be made in the organizational structure of business enterprises. As stated in the famous OECD study (OECD, 2000), ICT improves productivity by enabling major organizational innovations. The article examines the nature of these changes and their regional aspects, as well as the opportunities of ICT to improve productivity. These opportunities are derived from virtual time compression, possibilities of overcoming geographical barriers, and restructuring business relationships when practicing e-business through regional electronic marketplaces.
