Sažetak
The Mediterranean states, encouraged by the exposure of the semi-enclosed Mediterranean Sea to pollution, adopted numerous regional treaties devoted to the protection and preservation of its marine environment. These treaties created a legal regime aiming to moderate and control pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. The framework of the mentioned legal regime is the Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution, adopted in Barcelona in 1976. Specific obligations regarding particular sources of pollution and different mechanisms of cooperation between coastal states in the Mediterranean are conatined in the protocols addition to the Barcelona Convention. Further development of the Mediterranean legal regime of protection against pollution requires the adoption of a new protocol, which would contain a detailed regulation of prevention, reduction and control of pollution of the Mediterranean Sea resulting from exploration and exploitation of the seabed and its subsoil. The article analyses a possible content of the future protocol in accordance with several groups of preventive measures.
