Sažetak
The work analyzed the role of the Danube Strategy (DS) that can supplement the EU enlargement process in the South-Eastern Europe (SEE). It can positively influence the EU perspective of the SEE by fostering economic dynamism, bringing socio-economic development and upgrading governance capabilities across different tiers of government due to the need to converge with the EU criteria and participate in the emerging cooperation scheme. Additionally, cross-fertilization of cultural and educational ties as envisaged by the DS would help to reinforce the EU identity in the region and move the EU closer to the citizens that is indispensable it tackling the present Euroskepticism. Finally, Croatia's upcoming EU membership can further accelerate the EU perspective of the SEE as Croatia wants to become gateway to the EU for the rest of the region and also secure tangible economic benefits with the strategy.In this way both the DS and the upcoming Croatian EU accession can mutually reinforce and accelerate the EU perspective of the SEE.
