Sažetak
Multicultural cities represent complex areas of mixed populations, traditions and cultures, as well as complex multilingual realities. Migrant communities constitute an essential part of such cities since they crucially influence their social, economic and cultural life. The aim of this paper is to compare two case studies, one concerned with Italian migrants in Vienna (Austria), the other one studying Albanian migrants in Pula (Croatia). Taking as a starting point different historical contexts that influence the different status that the groups enjoy in the host cities, the proposed paper investigates the complex identification practices of the members of the respective migrant groups and their potential for economic participation. At the centre of interest are the integration scenarios at various levels, e.g. at the social, economic and linguistic one, as well as the role of language for integration.
