Sažetak
The so called „cultural revolution“ in the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) represents an insufficiently researched aspect of the unsuccessful Ustasha transformation of Croatian society during World War II from 1941 to 1945. This was an attempt to create a new system of social values in a totalitarian country based on the ideology of regimes modeled after the Nazi Third Reich and the fascist Kingdom of Italy. The new Croatian language based on etymological spelling and cleansed of foreign words, together with the new politics and laws was supposed to help create a morally, spiritually and intellectually improved Croat. The Ustasha propaganda, especially the newspapers, had a leading role in the implementation of the cultural revolution. This is why news agencies were strictly controlled by the State News and Propaganda Office (SNPO) until the end of 1942, and then by the National Propaganda Office (NPO) until 1945. The newspapers acted as a spokesperson for the government and the leader Ante Pavelic. The reporters were required to be of Croatian nationality, belong to the Aryan race and be members of the Croatian Journalist Society. The particularly negative aspect of the cultural transformation was the discrimination of Croatian citizens of different nationalities and religions. These traces are still somewhat present in some parts of Croatian society, and were revived in the Great-Serbian aggression in the Homeland War (1991 – 1995).
