Sažetak
Holidays with pay had an important place in creating the image of well-being in socialist Yugoslavia. As soon as they were introduced, a special system of social tourism was established with the goal of enabling large numbers of people to get away on vacation. The working-class was adopting the holiday culture, and by the late 1970s spending summer holidays at the seaside developed into a massive consumer activity. Tourism became extremely important for state revenues and was not less significant in the perception of one's own standard of living. Since the Yugoslav coastline was mainly part of Croatia, Croatian coastal regions were the most popular destinations. The Adriatic became a significant supranational sign of Yugoslav identity.
