Sažetak
The author examines some of the key terms of the symbolic geography of the Western Balkans in the period of the accession to the European Union. Apart from insisting on the intertwining of the symbolic and the political in the discourse which surrounds Croatian accession to the EU, one of the key points is that not only the elite, but also the broad, popular discourses need to be examined in order to grasp a fuller understanding of the societal perception of the European Union in Croatia.
