Sažetak
Eleven Teucrium L. species are registered in Croatia. Among them T. arduini L. has the specific position as an endemic Illyric-Balcanic species. It is used in folk medicine in the form of infusions for stomach diseases. The aim of this study was the multivariate comparison of the contents of antioxidants total polyphenols (TP), tannins (T), total flavonoids (TF), and total phenolic acids (TPA) among six populations of T. arduini growing at different localities in Croatia, as a contribution to chemotaxonomic researches of this endemic species. Determination of all investigated compounds was performed spectrophotometrically. Statistical comparisons of antioxidants’ contents among investigated populations, as well as between different plant organs, were carried out using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Unweighted Pair-Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA). Leaves generally contained the higher concentrations of TP, T, TF, and TPA than stems and flowers. Flowers generally contained the smallest amount of TP, T, and TPA, while the smallest content of TF was obtained for the majority of stem samples. ANOVA showed statistically significant differences among investigated populations, as well as between each plant organs for TF and TPA contents. Statistical differences between few populations were also established for the T content in flowers. On the other hand, there were no significant differences for the TP content among investigated populations, nor between examined plant organs. The samples from the northern localities generally had the higher contents of TP (max. 15.87%, Učka) and TPA (max. 5.07%, Šušanj), while the populations from southern growing sites were more abundant with T (max. 7.33%, Vošac) and TF (max. 0.40%, Sveti Jure).
