Sažetak
Timber forwarding is largely used in forest harvesting of lowland and hilly even-aged forests in Croatia. Load is completely raised over the ground and only rolling resistance has to be overcome during timber forwarding. Timber forwarding with modern mechanical machines in Croatia relies upon the traditional use of animal-carriage teams. In the period of powerful penetration of mechanization in forest harvesting in 1960 and later, along with tractors, the Croatian assembly, tractor-(semi)trailer with crane and winch, the so-called tractor equipage was introduced. At the same time, the import of forwarders started (1971) aimed at timber forwarding, especially in lowlands. Today, timber forwarding is carried out with forwarders and tractor equipages. Apart from timber forwarding, forwarders and tractor equipages can be used for road hauling at shorter distances, thus excluding reloading at the landing. The use of forwarders and tractor equipages for timber forwarding depends on the cut-to-length method of timber processing.
This paper presents the results of research of the performance of Timberjack 1210 forwarder and three types of tractor equipages (Pionir, FMV and Steyr) in timber forwarding from natural thinning stands. Some harvesting parameters of investigated vehicles are shown, such as: average travelling speeds of unloaded and loaded vehicles, felling site and landing time consumption, allowance time, realized load volumes and possible efficiencies, standard times and costs per unit depending on forwarding distances.
