Sažetak
Transition is a characteristic of various world economies, including Croatia. These economies have been and still are changing from planned economy to a free market economy. Transition economies undergo economic liberalization, letting market forces set prices and lowering trade barriers, macroeconomic stabilization, restructuring and privatization, in order to create a financial sector and move from public to private ownership of resources. The aim of this article is to present specific changes that one economy in transition is undergoing when moving into free market and post transition economy. These changes primarily lead to change and creation of institutions, particularly private companies. The resource for these changes lies in the privatization processes in which the role of the government and its regulations take a whole new meaning, and where private-owned companies, markets and independent financial institutions are promoted. In 10 years period in Croatia (1996-2005) number of the companies that are government owned came to 1, 7%, while the number of privatized companies and those undergoing privatization increased. Also the number of private owned companies constantly grew and still is growing. All this has lead to an open market economy, growth of GDP, development of entrepreneurship and overall competitiveness of Croatian economy. The article is based on a research about the structure, forms and changes of Croatian companies.
