Sažetak
Most of today's companies engage in innovation activities to produce new products and to upgrade existing ones. One of the goals of these activities is to differentiate products from competitor's product and thus preserve or enhance profit margins. Increasing competitive pressures are forcing companies to increase their rates of innovation. The increasing rate of innovation shortens each product’s duration in the market, thereby compressing each product’s life cycle. Without proper management, increasing product turnover will increase design and manufacturing costs. Unless companies can efficiently manage multiple generations of the product, there is a substantial risk that costs will spiral out of control. Supply chain performance has a major impact on availability, lead time and total cost. Outside of the subjective factors that are related to market acceptance of the product, availability, lead time and total cost are the three major factors that define the profitability of a product line. The importance of supply chain performance in new product development and the efforts by companies to influence their supplier performance is the purpose of the paper. This paper also presents a business process and analysis that can be used during the product development phase to design superior supply chain performance into products.
