Sažetak
Distribution of six, most common, Cystoseira taxa on the coast Montenegro (South - East Adriatic Sea) is presented. Scarse existing data for findings of Cystoseira amentacea var. spicata, Cystoseira. barbata, Cystoseira compressa, Cystoseira corniculata ssp. laxior, Cystoseira foeniculacea and Cystoseira spinosa are enhanced with 249 new observations and 65 historical unpublished observa¬tions, therefore the knowledge of their distribution is sig¬nificantly improved. In comparison with information from some other locations in the Mediterranean Sea, condition of Cystoseira populations on the Montenegrin coast appear to be quite good. However we should have in mind negative changes caused by the habitat destruction, sea urchin over¬grazing, eutrophication and competition with mussels and alochtonous species. Consequently, importance of protection of Cystoseira assemblages, further protection and moni¬toring of the sea environment as well as sustainable de¬velopment of the coast is needed.
