Sažetak
As a consequence of autumn's global crisis in 2008, resulting employment crisis has heightened the need for policies to help people keep their jobs or get them back into employment quickly. This article focuses on the role of labour market policies in explaining different labour market developments in EU member states and OECD countries. ALMPs are closely interrelated with "passive" labour market policies (e.g. unemployment benefits), as there is today an effort to "activate" the latter in order to enhance the integration of the unemployed and underemployed into the labour market. The empirical part of the research is divided in the two central parts. The first one concentrates on cross-country analyse of labour market expenditures. The second one reviews estimates effects of existing labour market policies effectiveness studies on labour market performance in selected countries. Special attention is put on the studies of macroeconomic effects of LMP, because they are rare. The results show that ALMP has positive effect on labour market - reduce unemployment and increase employment. Distinction between different types of ALMP indicates that job training is most effective in reducing the unemployment rate and increasing employment rate, especially between young workers.
