Bone regeneration is a highly efficient and tightly regulated process which is the result of a continuous interplay between growth factors and cytokines for both initiation and regulation of the remodeling process.The omentum is highly vascularized and filled with adipose tissue, both ideal characteristics for tissue engineering. Several observations suggest the therapeutic potential of stem cells isolated from adipose tissue.Growing adipocytes produce a dozen angiogenic factors including leptin, VEGF, FGF-2, TGF-β.The aim of this study was to investigate influence of omental fat on bone turnover, especially on bone healing. The study was carried out on 17 male adult white New Zeland rabbits in same condition.A large segmental defect was created in the radius of each animal in both A nad B groups. In group B defect was filled by omental fat. The first radiograph of the excavated area was made two weeks postoperatively, and in order to monitor the dynamics of creating the callus every two weeks, ending with the eighth week since the operation. Animals were euthanized 56 days after operation and the bones removed for histomorphometric studies. The trabecular surface covered by osteiod and osteoblast interface showed high degree of positive correlation in treated group. Osteoblast interface has proved to be ststistically significant parameter ( p = 0.005). A bigger osteoblast interface was found in the treated group with respect to the controled.
